Empire named Innovation of the Year at Industry Energy Eagles Awards 2024

Empire, our nomination and allocation platform created in collaboration with Britned, has been selected as Innovation of the year at the Industry Eagle Awards 2024. The Industry Energy Eagles Awards recognises initiatives that actively bring innovation to the energy sector and award their winners each year in multiple categories, honoringrecognising domain expertise and high-quality products that are created to drive the industry forward.

What led to the partnership between Britned and Supercharge

Britned’s 1000 MW interconnector powers 1 million homes in the UK and Holland while allowing over 70 organizations to trade the excess power to fully utilize and optimize capacity.

Britned sought ways to optimize their current platform and maximise productivity for interconnector operators and market participants. Their goal was to create a smoother, more efficient workflow for all users. To address this, they decided to collaborate with us to create a modern, redesigned, unified platform, ensuring optimal capacity management and secure, streamlined trading. 

By combining Britned’s deep industry expertise and Supercharge’s experience in creating digital solutions that thrive in complex technical and regulatory environments, our partnership proved highly successful.

How does Empire revolutionize energy trading?

The main goal in creating Empire was to integrate several different legacy and isolated systems used by the company in one single platform to manage auctions, nominations and energy flow.

• End-to-End portfolio management: the new platform enables users to manage their entire trading portfolio, participate in long- and short-term energy auctions, manage nominations, view settlements, and generate reports, all from one single-window solution.
• Minimising curtailment losses: Empire gives BritNed operators real-time control over allocations and nominations, minimising imbalances and curtailment losses while reducing financial risks, a capability unique in the European interconnector market.
  
• Human-Centered Design: Empire’s modern, intuitive interface is optimised for efficiency and it’s supported by advanced APIs that allow access via GUI or programmatic integration. The Atomic Design System, Dark Mode for reduced eye strain, and configurable dashboards for real-time insights all contribute to an improved user experience.
  
• Boosted Operational Efficiency, better decision making: Streamlined workflows and automation reduce complexity and enable faster, more accurate decision-making.
  
• Innovation built on flexibility: Empire gives BritNed’s commercial team the flexibility to adapt products to the changing needs of energy market participants and evolving market dynamics. The platform supports initiatives like the world’s first Buy Now Auction and the ability to offer spare capacity during maintenance or outages - providing more options for customers and greater operational flexibility.
