As Agentic AI captures global attention, industries face a pressing question: how to harness its potential without losing control? In sectors where every decision carries weight — from energy and maritime operations to healthcare logistics — the challenge isn’t whether to adopt AI, but how to do it safely, strategically, and at scale.
Agentic AI, capable of taking initiative and adapting to dynamic environments, holds immense promise. Yet in high-stakes contexts, moving from proof of concept to production can feel daunting.
We see it every day, the interest in AI in these complex environments is very real — but so is the caution. These are industries where the margin for error is almost zero. Leaders want to innovate responsibly, with a strong focus on reliability and compliance.
- says Hans Pieter de Vries, Managing Director at Supercharge.
Designing Collaboration Between Humans
The team at Supercharge believes the future of AI in high-stakes environments lies in augmentation, not automation. AI automation isn’t an all-or-nothing choice, it’s a spectrum — where we decide how much control remains with humans and how much autonomy we delegate to the system.
Agentic AI adoption with minimized risk begins with an incremental approach: start small, test thoroughly, and build confidence without compromising safety or compliance. As trust grows, systems can gradually assume more autonomy while humans maintain oversight and final judgment. This creates a pragmatic path to scaling impact through seamless collaborative workflows — where experts focus on critical decisions and supervision, and AI manages the repetitive or data-intensive work that would otherwise constrain human capacity.
Transparency is a crucial foundation for scalability. Building systems that are traceable and explainable ensures experts can validate AI decisions and refine them through continuous feedback loops. “It’s not a static setup,” Hans Pieter adds. “As AI capabilities evolve, roles evolve too — it’s an adaptive partnership that grows with experience.”
Transforming Energy with Agentic AI
Nowhere is this teamwork more important than in the energy sector — one of Supercharge’s main focus areas, where the company works on major projects for clients like TenneT and National Grid. Over the past two decades, the industry has faced rising complexity: live data streams are multiplying, generation is becoming more decentralized and unpredictable, and the demand for grid stability has never been higher.
Helping industry players navigate these challenges through technology is the key focus for Nils Teipel, Supercharge’s Energy Director, who joined the team over the summer after 15 years in the sector, including at TenneT.
Across the ecosystem — from TSOs and DSOs to traders and onsite engineers — are looking for smarter ways to keep up. When designed responsibly, AI can make a huge difference here. - Nils says.
In control rooms, AI can act as a digital co-pilot — monitoring the grid, simulating scenarios, and flagging risks from weather or equipment issues before they escalate. It connects patterns no human could track in real time, helping operators make faster, better-informed decisions. Beyond the control room, AI combined with robotics can support system operators in inspecting assets, detecting early signs of faults, or working safely in high-voltage areas where human access is limited. In energy trading, its potential is equally transformative — identifying market patterns, forecasting price movements, and distilling insights so traders can act faster and with greater confidence.
“It’s about building systems where AI helps experts do their jobs better,” Nils emphasizes. “Predict grid imbalances, safeguard assets, identify trading opportunities — all under expert supervision.”

AI in Other Mission-Critical Sectors
The same principles apply across healthcare, finance, and maritime — industries under constant pressure to make precise, time-critical decisions in complex, data-rich environments. AI helps professionals anticipate issues earlier and act faster, but in a more grounded way. That combination of human judgment and machine intelligence is what ultimately enables safer, more reliable operations.
A Responsible Start to AI Innovation
Supercharge’s engagements typically begin not with technology, but with purpose. What challenge are we solving, and where can AI make life easier and better? The company runs a proven workshop track to pinpoint high-value opportunities and define responsible and actionable use cases.
From there, Supercharge co-designs workflows that are safe, transparent, and mission-driven. The aim is to deliver early wins that build trust internally while laying the foundation for long-term, responsible AI adoption.
As industries across Europe seek to translate AI hype into real-world value, this human-centric approach offers a grounded way forward — innovation with control, impact with integrity.
